Where?
Addis Abeba
Why?
In the higher SELAM school classes, it has been noticed that many girls have monthly absences. Inquiries have revealed that many girls cannot afford menstrual products and therefore do not attend school for several days a month. These absences have a negative impact on their school performance and reduce their chances of continuing their education. To counteract this problem, we have launched the hygiene program.
Structure
-
The girls and young women are selected by SELAM teachers and social workers who are familiar with the girls' living conditions.
-
They are informed about hygiene and health issues by specialists and are supervised during the program.
-
They receive the following items: Sanitary towels (monthly), hair oil, soap, Vaseline, underwear, toothbrush and toothpaste (quarterly), comb (half-yearly)
How can I help?
You can support the hygiene program with a donation. With CHF 30, a young woman receives all the above-mentioned hygiene products for one year.
In 2023, 300 young women took part in the hygiene program.
